Raised in New York, Marian Moiseyev now resides in Palm Springs, California, where she pursues her passion for abstract expressionism. Her abstract work successfully reflects New York’s passion tempered with the inner reflection learned in California. Having begun her professional career in the early 1990’s, Moiseyev attacks each painting with a subdued recklessness that is controlled only by her sense of harmony, indicating that she is content to merely guide rather than force the outcome of each piece.
With bold organic forms that suggest a narrative without overt representation, the artist achieves an almost rhythmic counter point that lets her exploit the relationships between color, shape and space. The evolution of each painting consists of multiple stages. Working layer upon layer, Moiseyev plays with surface textures until the desired effect of intensity and harmony is achieved.
“In the process of self discovery,” Moiseyev said, “I discovered self expression.”
Moiseyev’s work conveys the challenges we all face in our attempts to grow and develop. Not necessarily expressing the beauty, but sometimes the struggle in finding it. Remarkably powerful, while maintaining a meditative quality, each painting permeates with memories and whirlpools of emotion. Moiseyev believes that all of life’s challenges should be given meaning. And it is her life’s experiences that give her work its passion.
In Moiseyev’s new series, “Time”, she is at her best with the spontaneous juggling of organic shapes and spheres, which are both powerful & somewhat playful. There is a candor about the unstructured and impulsive excursion that suspends each form it’s perfect home.
Moiseyev admits that she has barely scratched the surface. "As new emotions and experiences emerge, I realize that this journey is just in its infancy. The process is not always comfortable, but I continue to be intrigued, as I follow the uncharted course of my life. And I delight in the discovery of what opportunities & surprises are always around every corner.”
Creating most of her life, Moiseyev’s paintings can be found in numerous private collections and several galleries.
